Herbalife and LA Galaxy Team Up with A Place Called Home for Annual Back-to-School Event Benefiting More Than 1,500 Underserved Students in South Los Angeles

Riqui Puig, Edwin Cerrillo, Tucker Lepley and John McCarthy to Help Distribute Backpacks to Kids and Families

Herbalife and the LA Galaxy teamed up to support A Place Called Home (APCH)’s annual back-to-school event, helping provide more than 1,500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to students in need in South Los Angeles. Herbalife volunteers and LA Galaxy players, including midfielders Riqui Puig and Edwin Cerrillo, goalkeeper John McCarthy and forward Tucker Lepley, joined forces to distribute backpacks filled with supplies such as pencils, crayons, rulers, notebooks, calculators and pens.

“This event embodies Herbalife’s commitment to empowering communities by removing barriers to education and wellness,” said Samantha Holway, vice president of regional sales and business development at Herbalife. “We are proud to partner with the LA Galaxy and APCH to help ensure that students and their families start the school year ready and confident.”

The backpack distribution was made possible by the Joint Community Partnership Fund, a collaborative initiative between Herbalife and the LA Galaxy dedicated to supporting underserved communities through education, nutrition, wellness and sports programming. The fund supports efforts such as school supply drives, youth soccer field development, garden-based nutrition education and the LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team.

“We are honored to stand alongside Herbalife and APCH in supporting the children and families of South Los Angeles,” said Gabriel Osollo, director of community relations and foundation at LA Galaxy. “This event highlights the power of community collaboration in creating opportunities and promoting wellness for all.”

Herbalife and the LA Galaxy have proudly supported this event for the past five years. In addition to the on-site celebration, more than 700 backpacks were delivered to APCH members in advance of the event and are also being distributed to hundreds of additional kids and families in need via APCH’s network of partner organizations across South Los Angeles.

“Community events like this are vital to supporting our youth and their families,” said Gilbert Radillo, senior director of engagement at APCH. “The ongoing generosity of Herbalife and the LA Galaxy allows us to provide essential school supplies to the young people of APCH and South LA, so they are able to thrive academically and socially in the coming school year.”
